Description
Thecocknbullkid – aka Anita Blay - is pro-pop. A pop star in the making for 2009. She wants to make a splash. Not just in one corner, but all over the mainstream. And she is going to do it on her own terms. She makes music that is new, that is forward-thinking – music that takes chances. 'Im Not Sorry' is a perfect demonstration of this. 2008 saw thecocknbullkid really begin to come into her own. After appearing at all the major festivals, she performed live on Later with Jools Holland, as well as supporting the likes of CSS, Late Of The Pier and Metronomy. She is currently holed up in the studio, working with Mark Anthony Tieku, Blue May (who produced I'm Not Sorry), Joe Mount and Dave McCracken.
Her influences come from across the musical spectrum – Madonna and Little Richard, Grace Jones and Morrissey – nothing is off limits. Musically adventurous, thecocknbullkid marries this to a darker lyrical side. There is always something more sinister in her songs, something real. And no more so than in 'I'm Not Sorry'. The song is about being nasty, but being nasty and not feeling bad about it. Its incredibly honest. And its honesty that shapes all her songs. The dark side is out there and its real. Just like thecocknbullkid.
thecocknbullkid will be performing her biggest UK headline show to date on 11th March when she appears at the ICA.
