UK rapper Jay Prince's latest mixtape Smile Good chronicles a variety of his life experiences and the faith that carried him through them. With it's gospel and jazz inflections "Father Father" is a great representation of what Jay Prince is all about. In many ways it's similar to the work of Chance the Rapper, which makes sense since he just garnered an gig opening for him on upcoming tour dates.

Maggie Rogers - Alaska

When Pharrell Williams sat in on a songwriting class at NYU earlier this year, he didn't expect to hear anything as mesmerizing as Maggie Rogers' " Alaska." The combination of the singer's earthy vocals and palpable beats left him nearly speechless and inadvertently helped launch the career of a promising new talent. Now that stunner of a song finally has a music video, one that's just as magically organic. Rogers balletic dance moves also recall another young visionary - Kate Bush in her breakout video for "Wuthering Heights."

Run the Jewels - Talk To Me

Killer Mike and El-P combined potency and success as Run the Jewels has nearly eclipsed their solid individual careers. With their latest single, released two years to the day of their last album, "Talk To Me" is as heavy and furious as ever. Naturally they take a few jabs at Donald Trump, (" Went to war with the devil and Shaitan/He wore a bad toupee and a spray tan.") but it's the fire in their voices that really burns.

Pussy Riot - Straight Outta Vagina

While the identity of Pussy Riot may have evolved from a guerrilla art collective to punk solo project of founding member Nadya Tolokno, its objectives have always remained intact. Denouncing patriarchy has always been the end goal. Tolenko's latest single makes that clear in the boldest and cleverest of ways. Produced by TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek, "Straight Outta Vagina" is a disco-tinged slice of protest, and one you can dance to at that.

Allison Crutchfield - Dean's Room

Allison Crutchfield's best known for her work in Swearin' and P.S. Eliot, but now she's prepping a solo album of her own. Tourist in This Town is said to be a record about anxiety, transition and change. First single "Dean's Room" is a strangely optimistic take on those themes, bursting with upbeat synths. It marks new sonic territory for the singer as she forges a new and exciting outlook towards the future.

Hazel English - Make It Better

On "Make It Better" Hazel English grapples with a lot of conflicting desires. " I want to be seen/ Yet I want to be invisible/ I want everything/ Yet I want nothing at all," she sings. The California-based Australian native recognizes just how out of control we sometimes feel on her debut EP and the latest single makes this sentiment known in the breeziest way possible. It's a deceptively sunny indie rock for the most indecisive of days.

Drake - Fake Love

Drake turned 30 this week and to celebrate he released a handful of new tracks. Among them is "Fake Love," a song that addresses a familiar concern of the superstar rapper/singer: the more successful he becomes, the more he finds himself surrounded by fake people. Drake's been singing and rapping on this subject for a minute, but it seems to be reaching near-paranoia levels. So much for easing into your 30s anxiety-free.
