The Internet: The Last.fm Interview

Syd Tha Kyd and Matt Martians of The Internet talk about transitioning from the role of producers to performers and their vinyl collections.

"It was never supposed to be a group, period," says Matt Martians on the origins of The Internet, the neo-soul/R&B project he created alongside fellow-producer Syd Tha Kyd. As he explains it, "It was supposed to be the Odd Future producers singing," nothing more than a fun side project. But that side project, formed on the periphery of the Odd Future collective, is now much more focused. The band's latest LP Ego Death, their third, is being heralded as one of the year's best R&B releases. It's an album of sultry jams about love and lust (and the spaces in between) and sees the group taking a big step forward as songwriters and musicians.

We spent time with the group during a recent stop in New York City where they talked about transitioning from producers to performers, vinyl collections, and much more. Watch our exclusive profile up top to get better acquainted with The Internet.
