Afrojack's North American tour starts this Friday in Vancouver.

The successful Dutch DJ and record producer hit No. 1 on the Dance Club Songs chart last week, together with VASSY on their track 'LOST' featuring Oliver Rosa. Before he kicks off his tour, Afrojack answered some questions for his fans.

Last.fm: What did you want to be when you were growing up? Have you always wanted to be a DJ or to be involved in music?

Afrojack: I used to be very good at drawing so I always thought that would be my calling. But when I went to a club for the first time, then all I wanted to do was make dance music and DJ.

Last.fm: What's the first song you remember as a child?

Afrojack: My earliest memory of music was definitely seeing Bangles playing 'Eternal Flame' on TV.

Last.fm: What is one thing you wish you knew when you were younger?

Afrojack: That life isn't as it seems.

Last.fm: What's your favourite place to visit on holiday or when you're touring?

Afrojack: Ibiza and Las Vegas!

Last.fm: What's your proudest moment as a DJ?

Afrojack: Djing on the Great Wall of China, winning a Grammy, performing at Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Party, but the most fun thing I do is just touring in general at all these festivals, it's just so much fun.

Last.fm: Who are your major influences? Who inspires you?

Afrojack: Prince inspires me.

Last.fm: When you're in the studio, what is your music-making process like?

Afrojack: I sit down on my laptop, open up FL Studio and try to make a song and it takes 10 hours. And after 10 hours, I still don't know if it's just right so I'll try it again and again and again until I have something I like.

Last.fm: How has your music evolved since you first began?

Afrojack: To me, it's still the same as always. I follow my heart and see where it takes me but that took me across very many different soundscapes

Last.fm: What's the most memorable thing that's happened to you on tour?

Afrojack: Playing the main stage at EDC Las Vegas in front of 80,000 people, it was the craziest thing ever.

Last.fm: Do you have any exciting future plans or goals? Are you working on a second album?

Afrojack: Right now, I'm really focused on mentoring other younger up-and-coming talents and producers while working on new music.

Last.fm: What brings you the greatest joy?

Afrojack: My family and music.

If you want a chance to see one of the world's most in-demand DJ perform, he will be in Montreal, Las Vegas, Washington DC, Chicago and more. You can find details about his tour dates here:
