Three years after releasing the critically acclaimed Art Angels, Grimes is back with new music.

After teasing her fans with new song snippets and announcing earlier this year that a new album could be expected for 2018, Grimes dropped 'We Appreciate Power' together with a lyric video. On the new track, the self-proclaimed autodidact skilfully fuses the hypnotic power of repetition found on Daft Punk's Human After All together with a Nine Inch Nails beat. The resulting sound is also reminiscent of Garbage's unique hybrid sophistication. 'We Appreciate Power' appears to be the lead single from her untitled upcoming fifth studio album and the industrial-electro-pop song is already at the top of the spiking charts on Last.fm's Live page. Listen to it below.

The lyric video features influences from Japanese anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, one of the most celebrated and influential animes of all time. This coincides with Netflix announcing earlier this week that the cult 1990s anime, created by Gainax co-founder Hideki Anno, would be heading to the streaming service in Spring 2019.

If you've never watched Neon Genesis Evangelion before, have a look at the fan-made video below featuring the song 'My Sister Says The Saddest Things' from Grimes' second album Halfaxa.
