Vertebrae is the tenth studio album release by Norwegian metal band Enslaved. It was released on 29 September 2008 via Indie Recordings in Europe and on 28 October 2008 via Nuclear Blast in the US, Enslaved's first album on both labels. Allmusic describes the album's sound as incorporating elements of jazz and art rock. It was received as Album of the Year (2008) in Terrorizer Magazine, and later their Critic's Choice Album of the Year for 2008. The album sold approximately 1100 copies in its first week, reaching number 49 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart.

Enslaved is a metal band from Bergen, Norway. Their style has changed over the years. Originally being an old-school black metal/viking metal act, they now perform a slightly more experimental and progressive form of black metal which has elements of 1970's progressive rock.
