Matt started writing Nothing Ever Happens in Sydney around 1986 however the song didn't get finished until about 1987 when Mary and Matt were living in a council squat in Stockwell(near Brixton) and Matt was feeling a bit home sick. The station in the song is Newtown Station in Sydney. In 1986 there was only one train every 45 minutes which really used to piss Matt off, particularly on Saturday nights at about 1.00 am when he was trying to get home. The song is essentially about boredom.
