Based on the homonymous novel by Stanisław Lem, the song tells a brief version of the novel's events: the psychologist, and protagonist, Kris Kelvin, that has been sent to an ocean planet to further investigate the extraterrestrial life within it and its psychological effects on the space station's crew, which ultimately ends up affecting the protagonist as well, his mental torment manifesting in a constant hallucination of his dead wife. Solaris also adds onto the album's concept, the lyrics fitting with the overall themes of drug addiction and space rock.
