Imm El Jacket is a seemingly silly song about a guy mistaking a tomboy-looking girl for another guy, but the meaning behind it a little deeper than that. The song comments on gender roles in Middle Eastern society, and some of the freedoms that males have that females don’t. However, instead of shaming her or being appalled by the girl’s choice to defy gender roles, instead he simply apologizes for misgendering her (thinking she was a guy).
