Phil Oakey is best known for fronting the band The Human League. Born in 1954, he lived in Sheffield and joined The Human League in 1977, when his old friend from school invited him to sing (by invitation on his door!). When the early Human League split up, with Ian and Martyn going on to form Heaven 17, Phil was left with a broken band and a European tour. In order to not get sued, he famously recruited 2 schoolgirls who were dancing in a club in Sheffield to tour with him.
