Stephen Malkmus, best known as the lead singer of the influential 90's alternative band Pavement, was hired to record three songs for the soundtrack of Todd Haynes' unconventional Bob Dylan biopic, I'm Not There. Lee Ranaldo, guitarist and founding member of the legendary New York City alt rock band Sonic Youth, assembled a band entitled "The Million Dollar Bashers" after the song "Million Dollar Bash" on Bob Dylan and The Band's Basement Tapes. They accompany Malkmus on covers of "Ballad of a Thin Man" and "Maggie's Farm". These two covers are featured in prominent scenes in I'm Not There, the latter in the infamous plugged in 1965 Newport Folk Festival appearance, and the former in a music video type montage set in mid sixties England.
