I really don’t get these people that think an artist needs to stick to a certain style for the rest of their life. The mere fact that Steven actually tries new shit constantly instead of giving out Grace For Drowning era type stuff for the rest of his career is something to be praised. Stop gate keeping artists and thinking they’re required to stick to one style. Enjoy the older shit and if you don’t like the new move on. Stop spamming the same shit constantly of “what is this crap, i need some Raven to wash this away good lord” like fucking hell. Artists that actually move past their initial style are the best kind. Steven is incredible.

Pro tip: replace the original tracks in the running order with the extended versions from the LEDBS to make the album a bit longer

Really liked the album and it really seems to be one of those that really grows on you the more you listen to it (same with To The Bone). If Wilson idea was to make a really catchy pop album, then he got it. It's a shame that it is really short, wish it could be a little longer. Also I hope this road to this more electronic sounds would get him to do something similar to Insurgentes (In my opinion, his best solo work)

Strange... two important releases at the same day, but I kept all day listening to Soen's Imperial...maybe I'm not fit anymore...

This. Imperial is a solid album for me. TFB is probably the worst thing he has written.

I have a great respect for his works, I even have one of Porcupine Tree logos (Deadwing) tattooed in my forearm, and the moon-face from the Raven That Refused To Sing on my shoulder... but this album doesn't sound much like him. It's odd... his way of producing and composing is always pretty solid, I like his works as other band producer too, like Blackwater Park from Opeth... I had this same awkward feeling over some other artists recently too, like Leprous' Pitfalls and Panther from Pain Of Salvation...

I don't really see why anyone would care if you liked more Soen's release than this.

Aww you really flatter me :) It's really nice that 2 minutes of my life expended on you means that much to you. Thanks to you.

I think my favorites will always be Deadwing, Hand. Cannot. Erase. and Stupid Dream. Oh, and there's Blackfield 1 too...

Why are there so many assumptions about people who like prog? Prog has historically torn down barriers between genres, so it is a strange connection to make.

the archetype of a prog fan and the actual prog fan can be different but the tragedy is that there are still myriads of those guys who listen only to Genesis and Pink Floyd and never miss an opportunity to shit on music released after 1979. and recently it got even worse because now there are also Tool and Porcupine Tree fans who never miss an opportunity to shit on any music released after 2007. Different tastes, similar approach, both are called progheads.

I mean because the topic is way too unimportant to adress in any large-n statistical collection, we have to go by anectodal evidence and there are just so many loud minorities on the internet to me. The prog fans I meet in real life are almost way above average open minded, which again makes sense to me given many of the key bands in the genres approach to music.

That was gonna be my assumption too, but I actually see *way* more complaints about the prog crowd than complaints from the prog crowd, so it's hard to say

Are you sure? All the top comments on the main page with like 60 likes is people complaining about proggers, so it seems like TFB gets more love than hate (That's including your comment on this page too, btw)
