I swear Moment is a masterpiece that just slips my mind way too much, most bands wish they could age this gracefully after 3 decades

Monument is average at best, saying its a masterpiece got me chuckling. Fiction was the last good album .Insomnium are a far more consistent band by a long way.

I don’t agree. I personally enjoy each and every album from DT. You tried to objectify your claims, but you failed. It all comes down to personal preference; otherwise, you would have to specify much more about what can be liked and what not about their stuff since ‘Fiction’.

These replies just remind me how jaded the average metal fan is, I aspire to age this gracefully with my music...

I've seen them live in İstanbul 2 days ago! Mikael is a man much beyond the word "kind". we were waiting in the line for security to open the door and let us in, he suddenly showed up and I could not believe my eyes! he signed our tickets, got some presents from the audience and talked to every person one by one. i can not believe i took a photo with him! he stayed around with the audience almost 30 minutes. after he finished his beer, i told him something like "it's a plesure for me to serve you" i took his empty plastic cup and sent it to trash bin. when we get inside, they nailed it on the stage! i got 3 guitar picks from the new, young looking guitarist. it was one of the best days of my life! i'm already missing them, looking forward for the next time!

demos - the gallery were their best sound imo. never heard anything like they did on the gallery. all that classical and swedish folk influence.

I add Atoma too, it is even one of their best albums imho for its balance of melody, darkness, melancholy, aggression, atmosphere.

atoma is good for what it is, just doesn't compare to old stuff. doesn't really have any aggression or darkness. skydancer manages to capture twice as much emotion, melody, darkness, melancholy, and everything else while not overly using cleans or synths.

i mean they did great with the clean female vocals on skydancer, and the synths were great on damage done when they weren't the main focus.

All you have to do is write on your forehead that you are homosexual. Put on a thong and run down the street like that, screaming about how you lack attention, lol.

That early stuff (Yesterworlds, Skydancer, The Gallery) is truly in a league of its own, later isn't bad either

Man the early 2000s were good times. Rolling cigs, lots of beers, melodic death metal and no smartphones.

DEFINITELY. Also to be fair, their next record is kinda the last chance for they to reinvent themselves with other sound, considering Jivarp which was also a longtime composer for the band is out now and considering they have plenty of new blood and fresh air on the band, if it doens't happen i pretty much know we're gonna receive the same record they're putting in the last 10 years for the rest of life.

I'm completely happy with them having sound from the last 10 years??? That's a pretty imporant part of a band's identity/sound to remain similar/the same. I'd be less interested if it suddenly changed. 😂 TBH I don't think Moment/Atoma/Construst are identical or completely similar at all. 🤔🤷♀️

No, staying the same is not part of an identity, it's the part of being dull and redundant releasing the same stuff over and over. If someone likes their meals lukewarm, I guess it's fine, but I always lose interest in bands that keep on releasing the same uninspired crap on and on. But then again, my favourite band is Ulver, and when they released two albums in a row that were of the same genre it was a sensation for half of the scene. And yet, despite never repeating themselves, they always sound like Ulver, because identity runs much deeper than superficial stuff like "has growls" or "guitars do x".

I can't put the official music video on the track's "Add video" page? What sorcery is this?

So happy they got Chris Amott in on guitar. One of the best in the world, totally wasted since leaving Arch Enemy 10 years ago.

Moment was a lot better than critics gave it credit for. It was basically more of the same, but that's who DT is. They pump out pretty similar sounding stuff every new release, and people like it that way. Certainly not bad like people were acting, and it had some really strong moments.

It just feels like they've reached the end of their development. Any further change would somehow lead to losing their roots completely and having nothing to do with melodic death metal anymore and only making In Flames like modern alternative metal.

Moment was on most top-10 or top-5 metal album lists of 2020 I saw. Moment and Atoma are my favorite DT albums lol.

The gallery and minds I have been removed from Spotify. Not sure if this is a move to push for new album but last 3 albums have been so boring. Please give me back the best 90s melodic death albums.

My biggest issue with Moment is that I've heard almost every single one of those songs already, with the exception of "In Truth Divided" (I don't recall DT doing a track like this before and it's a definite highlight of the album). I do yawn a lot in the first half, but somewhere since the midway point things get a bit more Fiction-ish and a lot of keys and cleans kick in and it does give the album a bit of its' unique character ("Standstill" and "Eyes of the World" are a highlight here) and I have to say I kinda' like it. However, after the glorious winning streak of everything from Damage Done up until Construct, Moment just feels kinda' lost and directionless, a bit like Atoma before, but while Atoma had its' own sound and stick-out tracks, Moment is just kinda' all over the place.

I feel like the only person here that found Moment really fresh. They took the style perfected on Atoma and added shred solos and some faster Character-esque moments, one of my favorite releases this year!

The mixed impressions are fascinating to me. I think Moment is their best album in over a decade, taking the leaps in quality from Atoma and going even further. Transient, Failstate and Empires Lost To Time are S-tier DT.

I already considered Atoma functionally perfect, so seeing them expand on that even more with just as much passion/atmosphere is awesome.
