The track is produced by RandomBlackDude—the producer alter-ego of Earl Sweatshirt—and on the song’s sole verse, Earl manages to discuss a variety of topics varying from substance abuse to home robberies—the track’s title juxtaposes “cold” and “summer” as contrasts to each other, and Earl metaphorically combines a positive word with a negative adjective to describe the effects of a “cold summer”—this idea is also portrayed in the lyrics:
