Description

The chemistry has to be right for real magic to happen, for musicians to step out of all known zones and explore the limits of what they can do. Tonight we present artists with the power to muster those conditions from nothing, and summon up the psych. Nothing predictable happens around these two acts, who both explore sound and open up spaces in beautifully contrasting ways.

BEAK> are three Bristol musicians Geoff Barrow (Portishead) Billy Fuller (Fuzz Against Junk, Robert Plant) and Matt Williams (Team Brick). Together a formidable band of musical brothers on the Invada label who whip up potent sound currents couched in jazz, psychedelia, krautrock and electronics, which all stem from the backbone of a propulsive rhythm drilled deep and hard through each track. Tonight they get together to cut loose once more. Sometimes a band can be no more than the sum of it’s parts, but BEAK> are an equation in which it’s impossible to define equivalents or totals. Instead the meeting of three talent’s form a foundation from which idea’s assimilate and propagate.

MURCOF (The Leaf Label) and FRANCESCO TRISTANO (Carl Craig, Moritz von Oswald) are two formidable musicians who tonight will conjure up an atmospheric and intuitive performance of deep sonics and post-classical piano playing. 21st Century electronic composition and atmospheres from Murcof are blended and woven with jaw-dropping piano dexterity from Francesco who has serious classical credentials. The performance is a unique and moving blend of acoustic improvisation and electronic processing that feels entirely integrated but completely unique to each performance. Francesco's deft touches seem to evolve freely, splashing the sound field with chromatic colour and propulsive percussive textures, and intermingling with Murcof's cinematic sound, heavy sub-bass and veiled melodies. A sense of limitlessness mystery will be cast this evening.
