Description
Gold Panda
Hailing from Chelmsford, Essex, Gold Panda spent the early part of last year building a reputation as remixer du jour for the likes of Little Boots, Telepathe, Bloc Party, Simian Mobile Disco, Health and The Field, before releasing three EPs of his own material in the summer to huge critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork, Dazed and Confused, The Guardian, NME and beyond. Live performances soon followed and his invigorated head hunched style quickly won further fans as well as establishing him as an artist who could play live rather than just prod at an expensive laptop. With his raved-about remixes that quickly found the interested of various labels, blogs and tastemakers interest in his own material was inevitable and Gold Panda began culling his back-archive of material for a series of low key releases. The first was ‘Miyamae’, a 12” on Various, followed by the ‘Quitters Raga’ 7” on Make Mine, and the third, ‘Before’ was released digitally and on 250 limited CDs via Puregroove. The releases were heavily influenced from a year spent living in Japan, as well as B movies on vhs video, minimal techno and hip hop. His album "Lucky Shiner" has received critical acclaim from major outlets like Pitchfork, Urb, XLR8R, and a slew of others. It was recorded in the leafy Essex countryside but its heart lies further afield, betraying the influence of Gold Panda’s explorations in sound. It feels like the ravishing opium dream of a Victorian gentleman explorer, trying to recreate the exoticism of a long trip abroad through a prolonged period of narcosis.
SBTRKT - FIRST SF SHOW!
SBTRKT is heating up the dance music world. Remixing everyone from Radiohead to Modeselektor, this secretive producer is in high demand. His last SF appearance was mysteriously cancelled so make sure to catch this big show! Graciously allowing the music to speak for itself - even going to the length of performing behind a mask every time he plays out. Having just wrapped up remixes for Basement Jaxx (‘Scars’) and Franz Ferdinand (‘Send Him Away’), he’s got the airwaves in a stir with Benji B, Mary Anne Hobbs and Gilles Peterson singing his praises. With releases forthcoming on the equally anonymous Brainmath label, Ramp Recordings and the ever fun Young Turks.
Com Truise (LIVE)
From New Jersey with frozen circuits and love, Com Truise computes mid-fi synth-wave, slower-motion funk of many varieties. His latest effort, Cyanide Sisters, has sold out and been recently repressed. Come watch this amazing chill wave producer play for the first time in San Francisco.
LOOSE SHUS (LIVE)
A DJ/VJ/Producer from San Francisco that makes music that manages to fit the following description:
“It’s rocket ships meets neon hotpants, meets teased hair, meets lazer beams, meets the zodiac, meets a 1970s hotel lobby and throw in a light pink pearlescent vibrator.”
His artist name is actually a phonetic spelling of his name, Luzius, which people tend to pronounce incorrectly.Once upon a time Luzius was a film maker and got into producing soundtracks. When asked in a phone interview where he would place his product (his music) in a video store he said the fantasy sci fi section.
