Grey Lantern are proud to announce that we’ll be welcoming Teen Daze to Manchester, with the bedroom project of Canadian producer making his debut in the country in April following four years of prolific and often captivating activity. Joining him on his maiden voyage will be Ohio resident Brothertiger, the moniker of producer and musician John Jagos. In Manchester they'll be joined by the thrilling talent of local drone-pop group G R E A T W A V E S.
With a mind seemingly constantly wondering and seeking to express itself, Jamison a.k.a Teen Daze has been regarded as somewhat of a prolific artist over the past few years, with a slew of tracks, remixes, EPs and albums finding their way out onto the internet as the producer seeks to document the different paths that his musical journey’s taking him. One such trip began whilst studying philosophy over seven weeks in the Swiss Alps, a time which also saw him take in the fiction of the likes of C.S Lewis whose mystical novel ‘Out Of The Silent Planet’ influenced last year’s EP A Silent Planet Whereby his previous works had seen him dipping wholeheartedly into genres including lo-fi and dream-pop, ‘A Silent Planet’ saw him draw the result of his previous sandbox experiments together to create a sense of otherworldliness that gently ricocheted between various touchstones, making a unique sonic world all of its creators own working. This allied with stunning remix for the likes of Yeasayer, Grouper, Local Natives, Washed Out, Toro Y Moi and more has cemented Jamison’s burgeoning reputation as one of the most talented rising acts in North America.
"Teen Daze seems in total control; his synths bleed into more brilliant colors, his languid pace more purposeful, his memory bank FDIC-insured, his vagueness earned by the quality of his output." - Pitchfork
"We won't do a track-by-track this time because it'll just be an embarrassing gush of superlatives and synonyms for opalescent gorgeousness." - The Guardian
John Jagos began recording under the name Brothertiger in Toledo, OH during the summer of 2009, something indicative of the transformation musically he’d began enjoying since initially recording electronic music in 2006 as Monoteque. With a strong will towards experimentation, characterized by tribal beats and pulsing synthesizers, Jagos has cited influences from the likes of Brian Eno and M83 along with the experimental characteristics of Animal Collective and Caribou. The producer’s wonderfully progressive works include the Apache Feathers EP - released on the Modicum of Silence net-label - and Vision Tunnels, which drew heavily upon cassette-esque drum tracks and dream-like synths to combine the ethereal style of 80s new wave with the modern electro-dance sound.
“For fans of Mew, Miike Snow, and other makers of hazy European pop rock, Vision Tunnels is pure ear candy—soft, catchy, bittersweet, and overall beautiful.” - In Your Speakers
