Description

Shady Records Hip Hop super-group Slaughterhouse, are celebrating the release of their sophomore album “welcome to: Our House”, with their very first Australian Tour. The group consisting of four of the most prolific lyricists the rap game has ever seen in Detroit’s Royce da 5’ 9,’ New Jersey’s Joe Budden, Long Beach, California’s Crooked I and Brooklyn’s Joell Ortiz, have been steadily touring the USA and Europe in 2012 to packed houses and phenomenal reviews. Joining the super-group is currently one of the hottest and most hyped lyricists to come out of LA, Black Hippy Crew’s ScHoolboy Q, who is leading the way in a generation of emerging new MC’s. Australian Hip Hop group Full Tote Odds, whose debut album “Place Your Bets” has recently been released on Obese Records, are also along for the ride.

For four guys with their own separate successful careers, Slaughterhouse has accomplished a huge amount as a collective in the five years since they formed. The foursome came together in a most unusual way—beginning with an intense rap battle between Joe Budden and Royce da 5’ 9” that gave way to a mutual admiration society and eventually a song featuring all four members, titled “Slaughterhouse”, which appeared on Joe Budden’s 2008 digital album, “Halfway House”. The group found critical acclaim, success and a cult following with their first releases “Slaughterhouse” and “Slaughterhouse EP”. Under the guidance of one of the greatest MCs ever, Eminem, the groups much-deserved success culminated with the release of their 2012 Shady Records debut “welcome to: Our House”, which came in at #2 on the US Billboard Charts. Says Eminem of the group, “When I hear these guys, I wanna step my game up, and when they hear each other, it’s a competitive atmosphere and that’s better for Hip Hop.”

For the first time in a long time, Hip Hop can genuinely say that a new generation of MC’s have arrived. Sure, there are those who helped birth the culture and music and people who can say they grew up with it. But now, you are witnessing perhaps the first generation that can say they were raised on Hip Hop almost exclusively. If you don’t agree, you’re probably not listening to enough ScHoolboy Q. Noting Notorious B.I.G., Nas and 50 Cent as his biggest influences, the California lifestyle can easily be heard in his voice, slang and content. His ability to mesh the two allows a delivery that makes him standout on every track he spits on, and has caught the attention and respect of fans and the industry alike. As a member of the Black Hippy Crew, alongside Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock and Ab-Soul, ScHoolboy Q dropped his debut album “Setbacks” in 2011 on the Top Dawg Entertainment Label, to major critical acclaim. His follow up, “Habits & Contradictions” dropped in 2012. “Everything I put on paper is a true story,” says Q. “Some of it may have a little something added or taken out because I can’t put the real out there all the way. But it’s always true.”
Featuring members Levelheaded, Slats, Eslev, Ross Read and DJ Hacksaw, Adelaide Hills Hip Hop collective Full Tote Odds have been making waves nationally with their singles “Southern Wind”, “What’s Going Down” and “Adrenaline” receiving airplay across Australia. The Adelaide Hills have always been a fertile breeding ground for high quality Australian Hip Hop, producing acts such as Hilltop Hoods and Funkoars among others and it was here that the genesis for Full Tote Odds was written. Fresh off the Homebake Tour, Full Tote Odds released their debut album “Place Your Bets” in November, and will tour the country in support of the release throughout 2013.
