Laura's new album, ‘Once I Was An Eagle’ was realised earlier this year and was the much anticipated follow up to 2011’s ‘A Creature I Don’t Know’. The album was recorded at the Three Crows studio of regular producer and instrumentalist Ethan Johns (Kings of Leon, Ryan Adams, Vaccines), with Dom Monks on engineering duties and Marling’s lifelong friend Ruth de Turberville on cello. It’s a hugely ambitious record that reflects the dark themes of ‘A Creature I Don’t Know’.
The English songstress was barely out of high school when the songs that became her debut EP, My Manic and I, began hitting Myspace and turning heads. Her voice and lyrics were more evocative of someone twice her age, and her nuanced songwriting, played out primarily on guitar was closer in spirit and accomplishment to female heroes like Joni Mitchell. Virgin Records soon signed Marling for her first full length debut album, 'Alas I Cannot Swim'.
This is Laura’s fourth album - an achievement in itself for a 23 year old, the remarkable nature of her talent and career being underlined by the 2011 Brit Award for Best British Female Solo Artist, the two Mercury Music Prize nominations, and the NME Award for Best Solo Artist that she’s received in the years since her 2007 debut ‘Alas I Cannot Swim’. Marling is one of folk music's brightest stars of the 21st century, which is shown in her latest offering 'Once I Was An Eagle'.
Laura Marling will play the Olympia Theatre on Sunday 29th September.
