Back in Australia after too long an absence, MORCHEEBA perform sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne for Bluesfest Touring. Special guest support is the MC and founding member of both hip-hop Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli, Chali2na.

British pioneering trip-hop trio Morcheeba are back with their original lineup, so get ready to hear the dreamy, soulful, down tempo sounds of the Godfrey brothers and the sweet, sensual vocals of Skye Edwards- one of the most vocally gifted soul singers of today- that we have loved since the 90’s.

Morcheeba define the ‘chill out’ genre and are the perfect antidote to a big night, songs like ‘Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day’, ‘The Sea’, ‘Even Though’ and ‘Otherwise’ have been played in café’s, lounge rooms and at Sunday sessions worldwide and featured on endless compilations including the Café Del Mar series.

When Morcheeba last toured Brazil, they stayed in a Sao Paolo hotel with a swimming pool bar called the Skye Bar on its roof. One day, singer Skye Edwards was swimming in the pool when the manager came up and told her, “You do realise this pool is named after you, Skye?” This gives some measure of how far and how deeply the band’s influence has spread since they first sketched out the blueprint for trip-hop with their debut album ‘Who Can You Trust?’ some 18 years ago.

Morcheeba return with their eighth studio album ‘Head Up High’ released in October 2013. The album is a new direction for the trio who have had some significant changes in their lives since their last album 2010’s ‘Blood Like Lemonade’ and you can hear the positive, healing aspect in the new album that reflects those experiences. Morcheeba’s beatmaster and production wizard Paul Godfrey says of the album “I always need to feel we’re moving on and making progress,….When we make new records, all we want to do is blow our fans away, and hopefully make some new ones”

From his days growing up on the hardscrabble streets of Chicago’s south side, to his subsequent explosion onto Los Angeles’ burgeoning hip-hop scene, to his tenure as MC for seminal hip-hop group Jurassic 5, and his front-man duties for Ozomatli , Chali 2na epitomizes the portrait of a 21st century artist.

His collaborations with the likes of the Hilltop Hoods, Black Eyed Peas, Raphael Saadiq, Linkin Park, Damien & Stephen Marley, Anthony Hamilton, Beenie Man and Mos Def on his Fish Outta Water and Mixtape Series have ensured that, with his unmistakable, beloved baritone, Chali 2na has firmly established himself as one of the most distinctive, charismatic personalities not just in hip-hop, but music in general.
