Description
One name that kept popping up during the English Great Escape festival is Squid. And for good reason: few new guitar bands – black midi colleagues perhaps aside – sound so exciting these days: fans of strange krautrock passages and angular disco punk can lose their eggs tonight. Sometimes Squid sounds as if members of LCD Soundsystem and Girl Band have started a new project together.
On the other hand, they have a penchant for these long stretched-out passages in which voices, brass, synths, and noise textures create complete and utter disorder. Just over a week after new EP Town Center appears (on September 6 to be exact), the band will entangle Roodkapje in their own self-inflicted madness, at the peak of the hype no less! “A squid eating dough in a polyethylene bag is fast and bulbous. Got me?”
