The Australian musician Ry Cuming is an all-rounder: he sings in the electro formation The Acid, forms the deep house duo Howling with producer Frank Wiedemann (Âme), but above all he is the singer-songwriter RY X. Under that name Cuming scored a hit in 2013 with the raw-melancholic song Berlin. His music is compelling – don't be fooled by quiet melodies, he regularly builds up to an intensely passionate climax. It is mainly RY X's vocals that stand out in his music – like one of his examples Jeff Buckley, he is blessed with a voice that eludes earthly regions and seems to float somewhere above our world. On his second album Unfurl (2019), RY X strengthens his musical roots with rippling beats, sweet guitars, balanced piano and searching vocals.
