Description
Kim Deal, Kelley Deal, Josephine Wiggs and Jim Macpherson played their first show together on Friday 19 June 1992, in a snooker hall behind Warrington Rugby Club in the north of England. Two days later they supported Nirvana in Dublin and Belfast, before performing at Glastonbury. After 27 sold-out shows in the US, they headed to San Francisco to record 'Last Splash'. Released on August 30, 1993, reviewers described 'Last Splash' as "bubbly," "screeching," and "disjointed." With the recognizable 'Cannonball' as a spectacular centerpiece, it was named Single Of The Year by NME. The album quickly reached platinum status in the UK and US. The Breeders show their versatility on 'Last Splash'; featuring Kim's authentic writing, atmospheric instrumentation and playfully ironic lyrics, enhanced by the talents of Kelley, Josephine and Jim. The raw energy partly comes from spontaneity and experimental production techniques. For example, with 'Cannonball' an error by Josephine during rehearsals was accidentally included in the song. 'Last Splash' is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a mastered reissue, including two unreleased tracks. Vaughan Oliver's iconic cover has been beautifully reinterpreted by Chris Bigg for this special release.
