Description

Sónar touches down in Africa for the first time with "A Taste of Sónar" at Design Indaba.

In collaboration with Design Indaba, Sónar presents a preview for the festival in Barcelona, for a Cape Town audience on the 2nd of March 2012.

In March 2012 Sónar will touch down at Design Indaba in Cape Town, South Africa, marking the event’s first appearance on the African continent.

Design Indaba is a multidisciplinary creative platform that runs a variety of projects that all campaign for a better world through creativity. Its flagship event, the Design Indaba Conference, annually brings together the world’s top designers, innovators, entrepreneurs and thought-leaders for a three-day conference in Cape Town. The Design Indaba Expo, which runs alongside the Conference, is a 100% local platform for high-quality South African design products.

This year, Sónar will be responsible for the event’s finishing touch, "A Taste of Sónar". At Design Indaba, Sónar will bring "a flavoury appetizer" of the Barcelona festival to a Cape Town audience at a sonic event, to be held at Cape Town City Hall on the 2nd of March 2012. The lineup for the evening will feature renowned international artists of the electronica field, with young South African musical talents performing alongside them.

As one can expect from a Sónar festival, the venue for "A Taste of Sónar" is an important city landmark. This is particularly true of Cape Town City Hall, the venue selected for this groundbreaking event. An impressive Edwardian-style building built in 1905 that is visible from all over the city, Cape Town City Hall is where Nelson Mandela gave his first speech after being released from prison in 1990.

“A Taste of Sónar” presents an exciting lineup that features two key figures in today's German electronica, Modeselektor and Byetone, the French house DJ Brodinski and four of the most interesting artists working in South Africa today: Killer Robot, Das Kapital, Fletcher and BLK JKS.

The latest addition to A Taste of Sónar @ Design Indaba in Cape Town: Massive Attack (dj set) & United Visual Artists.
