Description

November 4.5.6, may be the inaugural year for Sound On Sound fest, happening 35 miles East of Austin, TX on the grounds of the Sherwood Forest Ren Faire (more on that in a sec), but the team behind the fest has been in the game for a long time. Consisting of a tight group of friends who have worked together for the past ten years on Austin's Fun Fun Fun Fest and Levitation, the spirit of Sound On Sound Fest is rooted in a back to basics approach to throwing a rad party for 12,000 friends. The line up has been carefully built around experience and fandom, rather then mega-headliners. Beach House, Explosions in the Sky, Run Jewels, Purity Ring, and Mac Demarco sit at the top of the bill, with the meat and potatoes ranging from Young Thug and Wale to Boys Noize and Jagwar Ma to Shannon & The Clams and Protomartyr. The any-thing-goes all-are-welcome spirit still persists, if not more so with Sound on Sound being a destination festival, a slightly new endeavor for the Austin live-music fan.

In starting the next chapter of Central Texas festivals, the Sound on Sound team looked closely at the very real festival fatigue that has begun to hit the market, and decided to try something slightly different by looking at their location as essentially one of their headliners. With that in mind, the first SoS Fest will be taking over a popular, off-season Renaissance Faire location called Sherwood Forest. 23 acres of castles, dragons, jousting arenas, mead, and ye olde' tofurkey leg stands. New to the fest experience this year is a fully immersive camping section featuring a second round of exclusive programming specific to that experience; bed time stories by Killer Mike, lullabies in your tent by Wild Nothing, plus an all night pop up club with DJs, late night comedy, and more. For those not enticed at spending the entire weekend in the forest, there will be a fleet of shuttles running continuously to and from the fest with one centrally located downtown station in Austin all weekend long, keeping safety and ease the top priorities for weekend.
