Description
The Dog bit back even harder in 2004 when more than 70 bands played Download across three stages. Away from the stage, scores of skate and BMX athletes competed in the Snickers Bowl in between mind-blowing sets from The Hives, Bowling for Soup, Metallica, Iggy And The Stooges, Slayer and Linkin Park. The “Download Vault” was launched, giving festival goers free access to tracks and videos from over half the acts that played over the weekend, and text competitions gave lucky fans once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to get to the heart of the action, watching their favourite bands from the mixing desk podium and the sides of stage.
Live reports and videos were uploaded throughout the weekend and within hours of festival goers returning home, a full photo gallery featuring all the bands was available online along with news and reviews of the festival from the panel of talented fans who worked across the weekend alongside the official review team.
In response, thousands of fans voted Download the ‘Best Themed Festival’ in the 2004 UK Festival Awards, while New Media Age magazine awarded the marketing and new media team with an award for the best New Media campaign in 2004 in the category of entertainment.
