This Is Love is the first track on ULTRA BLUE, the fourth album by 宇多田ヒカル (Utada Hikaru). It was released on May 31, 2006, as a promotional digital single for the album, and was also used as the CM song for a Nissin cup noodle campaign. The single reached number one in virtually every online music store in Japan prior to ULTRA BLUE's release.
Utada Hikaru is quoted as saying that this song is about expressing that "love is like a mix of extremes: anxiety and peace."
On December 20th, 2006, iTunes Japan released a list of top downloaded singles and albums, where This Is Love ranked at number 9, making it the 9th most downloaded song for 2006. In March of 2007, "This Is Love" would receive a triple platinum certification for Chaku-Uta downloads from RIAJ.
