Secret Of Mana, the first video game soundtrack I fell in love with. And as a young teen in the early 90's, really forged a love for soundtrack scores in general going forward...

I don't know what I've done to deserve a remake of Trials of Mana (FKA Seiken Densetsu 3), but am I ever thankful for it.

Secret of Mana was a game on par with the classics, such as Terranigma, Chrono Trigger, and Star Ocean. Brings me back to my MIDI days.

So I know people are up in arms about the changes to the Secret of Mana soundtrack, and to be fair, a few of them are awful (what were they thinking with “The Oracle” or “Leave Time for Love”?), but I actually quite like a lot of them. This is the first time I’ve actually genuinely derived enjoyment from “Incident on a Moonlit Knight”, and I also find “Flight into the Unknown”, “Mystic Invasion”, “Did You See the Ocean”, and “The Penultimate Truth” to be considerable, unambiguous improvements. Even bad tracks like “A Curious Tale” have something to prevent them from being completely unenjoyable (I really like the bass sound on a lot of them). I will say, though, that as beautiful as the remade “Pure Night” is, it loses a bit of the ethereality of the original, and feels less suitable as BGM for the Mana Holy Land. I think I’d rather listen to the remake outside the context of the game soundtrack, but there’s a mystery to the original that’s hard to beat within the game itself.

also: the in-game remakes of “Danger” and “The Oracle” might be pretty bad (though I think “Danger” is mostly ruined by an inexplicably bad mix), but the CD release of the soundtrack has alternate versions of both that are quite good. I’m not sure why they didn’t just use those versions for the game instead.

How is it the Soukaigi soundtrack has been out for almost twenty years and I only just heard about it yesterday? I mean, the fact that it didn't get a release outside Japan is obviously part of it, but plenty of people heard about SD3 despite its similar lack of a worldwide release. (Then again, there's a fan translation for SD3 and it's a sequel to a reasonably well-known SNES game.) I'm only on my first listen, but this seems like one of the best albums of the late '90s. Not just VGM albums. One of the best albums.

His work on Secret of Mana is some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard. The 90's had incredible music all around but for me it was the decade of videogame music. The golden age. Fond memories indeed...

Maybe I'm wrong, but I rarely see it on lists of great SNES games, which boggles my mind. Maybe I'm just not looking at the right pages.

The fact that Square Enix still haven't officially released SD3 in English probably has a lot to do with why it's so underexposed, but I can't offer an explanation for why Secret of Mana gets forgotten so often. I guess people don't think that an action JRPG from the early '90s could be as good as people say it is. Idk.

Yes, both the SNES Mana games, blindingly brilliant as they are, seem to have fallen to the side of many RPGamers' experience. Strange!

Underrated might be the wrong word, as most people who have played Secret of Mana love it, but so few people have played it. Underexposed maybe? Idk.

Secret of Mana is so underrated and the soundtrack is amazing. [2] Arguably even moreso for Seiken Densetsu 3 though.

the SOM soundtrack reminds me of the good old years, when I played this game so often ... can't avoid to get corny. ♥

Gotta say I love SD3 the most. Really underrated game, and the soundtrack is even more so - drowned in the shadow of SoM, it seems. Kikuta never gets enough credit for coming up with that insanely groovy and off-the-wall bass synth in SD3... Just listen to Frenzy. You will NOT be able to resist dancing to those phat beatz.
