Biography

Shunza (原名倪顺子), singer and song-writer, born in 1973 in Beijing, China, into a family of musicians. Her mother is the famous pianist (黄爱莲) and she migrated to the States when she was 6 with her mother and sister. Since she was 4 she started learning piano under her mother's supervision. She graduated from Ecole de Jazz et Musique Actuelle in Switzerland with a special interest in Jazz and Soul music and she released singles and participated in music production work in Italy, Switzerland and was hired as a teacher in EJMA after her graduation in 1995.

During the time she studied in Switzerland, she was a member of a band called Dutty Free, in wihch she officially started her music career. However, it was not until 1996 when her mother passed on a demo of her work to a music producer in Taiwan that she was introduced into the Chinese music industry and signed up to 磨岩Records (now under Rock Records Taiwan), a relatively alternative label that focused on alternative rock and indie at the time.

In 1997 Shunza released her first Chinese album and her latest album is in English and comprised old classics such as 'You Are the Sunshine of My Life' and 'A Natural Woman'.
