Biography

SEVENTEEN (Hangul: 세븐틴) is a 13-member South Korean boy group formed in 2015 under . The group consists of S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon and Dino.

Seventeen are the labelmates of popular Korean idol groups After School and Orange Caramel. On December 2012, Pledis Entertainment announced the release of SEVENTEEN TV, which is a pre-debut training show where fans could evaluate the boys training. Originally starting with 17 trainees, after 5 running seasons of 17TV, members were removed leaving 13 fixed members. The group debuted on May 26, 2015 with a debut showcase. Seventeen is the first Korean pop group to debut with a 1-hour live showcase on a major broadcasting channel. Three days after debut, the extended play 17 CARAT was digitally released along with the music video for their title track, called "아낀다 (Adore U)". It was revealed that the extended play was mostly composed and produced by the members themselves.

On September 2, they released their second extended play BOYS BE along with title track "만세 (MANSAE)". The album later went on to become the highest selling rookie album of 2015. The album's success earned the group awards at the Golden Disk Awards, Seoul Music Awards and Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards. It peaked at number two on the Korean Gaon Chart and number one on the US World Billboard Chart. Member Woozi had a hand in the lyrics for every song in the album; S.Coups, Wonwoo, Mingyu and Vernon also lent a hand.

On February 14, 2016, their official fanclub name was announced to be Carat. On April 25, they released their first full-length studio album LOVE&LETTER along with title track "예쁘다 (Pretty U)". Seventeen largely created the album, writing or co-writing every track, and composing or co-composing almost every track. The album charted at number three on Billboard's World Albums chart.The album's promotional single "Pretty U" charted at number three on Billboard's World Digital Songs chart, which marked their highest ranking on the chart to date. "Pretty U" also scored the boy group their first and second win on Show Champion on May 4 and May 11.
