midesti, that's an interesting take on the film. I haven't seen it in years. I can see the comparisons to Floyd, but give their seminal album, Moon Safari, a listen. Totally worth it.

Hey, now, kapitan_katz. I have seen the film but not listened to the album. You can think of the film as being about someone's pot garden. The grower is nourishing the female plants in every way but sexually. The illicit drug normally consists of the flowers--preferably unfertilized--of the female cannabis plant. Since pot is dioecious, male plants are required to produce the pollen. When this pollen reaches the female cannabis plant, a seed is usually generated. The goal of the elicit pot industry is to grow female cannabis plants to the point where they are unfulfilled female plants in the absence of male plants. These sexually ripe female flowers are then harvested, cured, and sold as an illicit substance. But the "Virgin Suicides," as a film, is much like that; just think of Kirsten Dunst and her sisters as female pot plants being denied their fertilization.
