Anpanman is based on a Japanese children's superhero picture book series written by Takashi Yanase. During the Second World War, Takashi Yanase faced starvation countless times, which made him dream about eating anpan, a bean-jam filled pastry. This inspired the creation of Anpanman, who gives parts from his head (anpan) to those in hunger and has no superpowers, thus coined as the world's weakest hero.

BTS, in their song, compare themselves to the character Anpanman. The artists said they wanted to convey their desire to give people hope through their music and performances. By comparing themselves to not the world’s strongest hero, but the world’s weakest hero, they want to spread the idea that rather than being a hero just because you’re strong, you can be a hero even if you’re weak.
