MelodicSymphony
One of the first bands to combine symphonic elements with black and death metal, yet not often talked about. :(

Used to be quite popular at least in Finnish metal scene. Saw them live in 2007 or such. The sound was horrible and the singer kept forgetting the words lol.

He kept pressing the echo pedal and laughing. My friend thought it was pretty great.

I listen to bal-sagoth about 10 years so far and still going. This musical style is simply unique, atmospheric and epic. I wish that one day the third trilogy will be complete. Thank you for musical gems.

By the way, if there are any IRC users here, please feel free to join the channel #bal-sagoth at Quakenet! The channel had its days of glory in the past, but now we're attempting to revive it and thus bring back a real-time chat haven for the Legions of the Black Moon again. Blodu ok Jarna!

Wow, the style on the 2006 album Chthonic Chronicals is so rare! At first when I heard it awhile back it was difficult to embrace. It was such a departure from their established style. But it was a bold move. Now it sets itself apart from any band. While before they were reminiscent to many symphonic black metal acts with a elaborate lyrical theme. Now the drumming & guitars are masterful and with a production coupled to deliver this insanity. It really was difficult at first to accept the heavier sound. Honestly its necessary to balance the 4 long symphonic tracks. Although this release does have 2-4 more songs than any release. The other songs featured on this album are beyond time and space. I still enjoy their older releases but the drumming is more of a generic galloping double bass which is very well established in almost all genres of metal. Such a magnificent epic artist that will go down in the annals of time as a wonder of metal. We evoke thee to release another masterpiece!

Used to think Bal-Sagoth is really weak symfblack, something like mixing Stormlord with Summoning and Carach Angren, but without any talent. But after two years, when I finally came back to confirm my view, I realised that it's me who was deaf. It's not my favourite band ever admittedly, but it surely creates incredible atmosphere and each three albums I already know is really interesting in his own ways. Also I'm going to listen debut album which seems to be closest to what I love. The lesson of the story? (quoting MrChimney) Bal-Sagoth needs maturate and listening more than once. But after all, it begins to be great band then.

I sat down one day, once again listening to and marveling about the incomprehensible wonder of Bal-Sagoth and their sublime art. I noticed a terrifying thought entering upon my mind: what IF, against all the odds, there came a lightning from a blue sky in the form of news about Bal-Sagoth creating, recording and releasing new music? I shuddered and trembled, for even the vaguest and the most fleeting thought of a new album is far beyond mortal capability to comprehend. I found myself incapable of standing even the thought alone, and far less would I stand the untold excitement and thrill should such news ever manifest. Hence, I abandoned the thought and more than happily continued to marvel at the art of Bal-Sagoth that already exists. The lesson of the story? Bal-Sagoth is such a terrifying wonder, that even the faintest thought of a new album that hasn't been announced and that will never come is enough to make one tremble.

I want to let you know that I understand how you feel. This isn't just music... uhh at this point I'm at loss of words. Terrifying wonder is the perfect choice of words in my opinion, I shudder at the thought of how colossal this music is and the intensity of the power it unleashes through the listener. This band is nothing like any other band I've listened to.. it's a different kind of feeling I can't quite describe or will never be able to..

do you have any idea what kind of sacrifice would urge the demigods of bal-sagoth to rise from their slumber in honor of us mortals? I didn't think the thought of a new album by any band could excite me this much, until I came upon your post and considered the possibility of a new bal-sagoth album. I've been too immersed in their current masterpieces to discover such an idea
