Biography

Barabás Lőrinc Eklektric was founded in Budapest in November, 2005 - at the right place in the right time.

The head of the band, trumpeter Lőrinc Barabás has demonstrated his talent in several bands and styles (Irie Maffia, Soulwhat, The Uptown Felaz), not just in Hungary, but also around Europe and further away. With enough experience behind him, he decided to go his own way, accompanied by excellent musicians. Their newly formed band literally blasting into Budapest club life bodes well, exceptional interest and appreciation characterize their concerts. Their fast-growing regular audience consists both from acknowledged jazz artists from the academy and city youngsters wearing loose pants. This audience is a prove not just for their reason to exist, but also their philosophy: diversity is delicate. And this is the essence of jazz ever since.

The sound of eklektric can be understood as a combination of styles represented by Lőrinc Barabás earlier (jazz, hiphop, dub, reggae, french house, experimental, electronica etc.) Once we hear the sensitive trumpet of Erik Truffaz, then the cool of Miles Davis looms up embedded in modern beats, but we can not be surprised on Eric Satie motifs either. Rap and spoken word go together with the above so naturally that instead of a multi cultural cacophony we get a mature, authentic sound, which is quite new in Hungary.

All this could not have been achieved without the drummer Jávor Delov, who's punctuality is almost metronomic and is capable of something, which most drummers are not: only hits the drums, when really needed - this is pure funk. István Bata knows how to gently handle the bass guitar, Mátyás Premecz sometimes gets into experimental electronica with his exciting keyboard themes and Dermot uses the MPC sampler and makes the music more exciting with melodica and scratching. The voice section is a paramount selection: the classic jazz singing of Julianna Fábián and the modest rap of MC Sena and the Grenada origin MC Kemon work together perfectly on the stage.

The band, with its eklektric sound shows contemporary but also commonly comprehensible jazz forms at the same time.

The band released one album till date titled Ladal.
