"1+1", the first track on the album 4, was premiered and performed live by Beyoncé on American Idol on May 25, 2011. The song was originally penned by Terius "The-Dream" Nash with the intention of including it on one of his own projects, but the song was later given to Beyoncé. The latter, along with Christopher "Tricky" Stewart did additional writing for the song before its release.
This R&B power ballad was released as a promotional single off of Beyoncé’s 2011 album ‘4’ on 25 May 2011 to critical acclaim. It peaked at #57 on the Billboard Hot 100. The music video premiered on August 26, 2011.
