The father and long standing king of bluegrass, even if he has been dead since 1996. I got to see him several times when he was alive, always entertaining. Always had a killer band, if you played with Bill, you HAD to be able to play. People like me that like progressive metal, (and some progrock) check out some of the stuff they were playing back in the 40s, and 50s. That was pretty intense back in it's day. Bill was always a master on the mandolin, and surrounded himself with other people that were masters of their respective instruments.

I was in Kentucky two weeks ago for a wedding. On the interstate, I passed a sign pointing to Bill Monroe's birthplace, so I promptly turned the car around and decided to go see it since I had some time to kill. Unfortunately, it was closed. I took a picture of the sign though: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/250/519341911_80ba707ec3.jpg
