Why the F does Spotify label Substrata as "Substrata + Man with a Movie Camera"?? How annoying for messing up scrobbles.

Good stuff, absolutely! Moreover, for me personally Biosphere is among the few musicians - along with Delerium, Namlook, Schulze and several others - who I've know for at least 20 years and whose output actually formed my view on what is good electronica. _PS: Can't say I feel much of Tangerine Dream sound in late Biosphere, but I'm not a pro on TD (yet:), so you still might be right.

Can’t believe no one’s mentioned the new album [Inland Delta] dropping this Friday? Certainly something to be grateful for. Hope it sounds as nice as its album art looks.

So as a whole, Inland Delta is definitely rather... okay. I don't think the full album hit me the same way that Shortwave Memories did last year. Not right off the bat, anyway. If there's more to unpack here, it'll take a couple of revisits.

Previewed a few songs on Bandcamp to see if this would be my bag, and it sure seems like it. Gonna' explore the whole album start to finish a bit later, cheers.

This album is like an exercise in retro synths I'd say. Make syntheziser sound like flute, make a synth track evoking Bach cantatas, make a track reminding of avantgarde composers of the mid 20s century, etc.. And all sounding like it is made with exactly the same very small set of instruments (or even just one synth, I don't know). It makes an album wholesome and conseptual and all, but - most importantly - somewhat boring to listen to. What his later albums lack in imo is that diversity and novelty of sounds and rythms which Microgravity and Substrata were literally full of and which is why they became the classics I guess. "it sounds nothing special" (for Biosphere) -- exactly this unfortunatelly.

Listening to "L'incoronazione di Poppea" for the first time, what a beautiful, unique album! I love all of Biosphere's vocal samples ❤️

Just another one of many disgraces that have fallen upon the world since the advent of the Age of Tik Tok.

Can't expect tiktok users to google anything ever. Did you know that "noise music'" is a k-pop term now?

That's some really lame pleb schlock indeed, but what do you expect when the average IQ is below 100? My eyes bleed just reading the song titles. "a simple bunny girl", "let's be lazy together" like, wtf.

Also find it disappointing. Solar Fields used to shave his head, so it was all fine but now he's growing hair again and I kinda felt not that interested in his songs anymore, although they're great

unfortunately there is, and it seems to be a very different vibe to the original Biosphere. I mean, just look at the song titles.

What's worse putting the term "official" on their bandcamp just makes it seem so desperate.

Or, “how to announce you're actually filtered in just 3 letters”. Straight and to the point, I have to respect the conciseness.

The original Substrata cover fits the music much more than the alternative one

I do like the Substrata 2 cover though. It feels like an unfolding topography of someone's hazy dream. I understand people's fondness for the original but my own feeling is that I probably would have dismissed some beautifully crafted music on the basis of the cover alone. That's on me more than anything else.

I completely agree with you. It's been 2 years since that post and by now I have learned to appreciate the artists' preferences for a new, more appropriate cover. I even bought a Substrata LP from Biophon and loved it at first sight.

I don't understand many negative reactions to the last album. Imho it is very consistent, interestingly conceptual and even rather experimental (which is not easy after 50 years of intense experimentation in all fields of music). It is definitely about taking something very clear and harmonious and subtly transforming it into a more obscure and, well, Biospherish version.) The task is succesfully acomplished by isolating some elements (or even hints of elements) of the original music - melody, cord progression, instrumentation - slowing it all down, mixing them with some ambient electronics, distorting, and of course repeating many many times (it wouldn't be Biosphere otherwise, would it:). To me Angel's Flight only once again shows that Jenssen is quite a masterful and clever electronic musician staying true to himself and still moving.

what would you recommend as his best? listened to this new one and Substrata a while ago, and though I liked them both, I have a feeling there is something more to his music

I really enjoy Cirque and finally checked out Microgravity on today's commute and can confirm that it's quite good. It may become my go to when I can get seat and read.

It could be. Sounds like, ugh, some spiritual cockatoo stuck in a Brian Eno's backyard for too long? Anyway, I hope he will turn his head towards nature again some day, there are enough composed soundtracks for bourgeois mansions already.
