It's now been two years since my Mom passed from lung cancer, and in that time I've lost my father to lung cancer and my younger brother to chronic alcoholism. I feel comfort in this song so much. She's able to capture the indescribable feelings of loss and love into both her words and her music.

"the machine of her breathed all night while she rested, revealed her resilience and then it didn't" and the pause in the track that comes after it is one of the most heart wrenching things i've heard

Indeed. For the first time I feel so unexcited about an upcoming Bjork album. These three songs are rubbish. Two reasons: 1. nothing new being said artistically by her this time; 2. the omnipresent citation of her previous works is so boringly done. It's a step back for her surely. But we'll see how Pitchfork will give the album a 8/10 and label it a Best New Music, lmao.

Having heard Vulnicura and Utopia, it's become harder for me to appreciate the earlier albums. Particularly the ones from the 90s. I prefer older Bjork with mature voice over her girly playfulness on the first few records. The only way I am capable of listening to her early stuff now is through recently recorded live versions, rearranged for the ongoing-at-the-time agenda.

Interesting how people's different entry points affect their appreciation of stuff. I got into her in 2003 and back then it was like those first four albums were held up as a paragon of musical excellence.

Well, I did not say V+U were my starting point. I got into her in mid 2010s, started with the first album and explored her discography in a chronological order (that's the only way to me to do it when getting into a new musician). At first, yes, the early stuff was mind blowing to me. But then I reached Volta and Voltaic Live and realized that the new rearrangements of her older songs on Voltaic were more appealing to me. And then Vulnicura and Vulnicura Live came out, which only confirmed my realization. A matter of personal taste, of course.

Joking. Just funny that the profile was created on the same day as the song came out (or day before).
