All Black Sabbath members are christian, they wrote this song from a Christian perspective. Get over it people.

The fact that this song comes right after the tribute to MJ on the album makes it even more interesting

I think it's more that they weren't really satanists, but just enjoyed pissing people off with it. And when people started genuinely following them for perceived satanism, they wrote a Christian song to piss those off too. It's just rock n roll trolling. That being said, the band were upset at the record label's decision to put an upside down cross on the debut record sleeve, walked around wearing the largest crosses this side of literal bishops, and warned against dabbling in the occult after their own experimentation in the early 70s; so if either is meant to be taken seriously, there's more of a case for this being genuine than "my name is Lucifer, please take my hand".

Yeah, that is pretty undeniable. I just meant it in a way that they had to clear any presumptions people or media would have had about them because they weren't really a satanic band. It was rare to have genuine satanic bands in that era anyway (except a few like Coven, I think), only bands that used it as a theme like Black Sabbath and Pentagram. Both the bands used satanism as some spooky evil thematic element rather than praising satan.

For those who don't like the lyrics, there's an instrumental version on the 2nd disc of the Deluxe Edition of "Master Of Reality."

The lyrics are atrocious, but apparently Geezer only wrote them because he was fed up with Sabbath being labeled as "satanic." It's a great song musically.
