Biography

The Brave Little Abacus was an American emo band from Sandown, New Hampshire, that consisted of Adam Demirjian (vocals, guitar, drums), Andrew Ryan (bass), Zach Kelly-Onett (keyboard), (the three of which were in ska punk band Eggplant Danceoff! prior), and Nick Morrone (drums).

Known for their experimental and genre defying sound, The Brave Little Abacus released 2 EPs, 2 full-length albums and a split with Matt Aspinwall. Their music was characterized by its intricate musicianship, combining complex math rock rhythms, catchy hooks, and deeply emotional lyrics; often exploring themes of mental health, relationships, and personal struggles with honesty and vulnerability.

The group formed in 2007 and disbanded in 2012, playing their final show at the Vic Geary Center on January 28th of that year. Following their separation, the group acquired a strong cult-following, becoming one of the most beloved acts of the emo revival scene. Their albums Masked Dancers: concern in so many things you forget where you are and just got back from the discomfort—we’re alright have been praised as classics in the genre.

Adam and Nick went on to form the Indie Rock band Me in Capris, and Zach Kelly-Onett would continue recording in the band Thew, along with music under his own name.
