I would say so. Generally his most well-known output is everything up through Tunnel of Love, so the first 8 albums. As far as things after that go, The Rising is definitely the most well-known, and it looks like Human Touch, Lucky Town, Devils & Dust, Magic, WOAD, Wrecking Ball, and High Hopes all sold better than this and Western Stars/Letter to You charted better, while selling fewer copies since the nature of music consumption has changed. Of course, it's still a Springsteen album, so it still did very well and also won a Grammy, lol, so not too obscure. But by Springsteen standards I'd say it is with only the title track and Youngstown having much prominence. In fan discourse, I would say this album gets some love and is at least discussed more often than Lucky Town, Devils & Dust, and High Hopes, maybe about as much as Seeger, but less than everything else, with the caveat that LTY and OtSS are too new to really have an idea of their place in the canon.

My guess is that Only the Strong Survive won't get as much attention as this and that it, Lucky Town, D&D, and High Hopes are the four most obscure Bruce albums but that this is more obscure than all the other ones. People talk about the title track and "Youngstown" a lot, "Across the Border" occasionally gets some love, but it's pretty rare that you see any of the other songs brought up. The album certainly has its diehard fans, too, though. But it always kind of stands out when it's one of someone's FAVORITE Springsteen albums, compared to a lot of the others.

Immense album, underrated by so many including myself until maybe a couple of years ago. Now I see it as one of his very best releases.

the first side of this album is 6 of my favourite songs ever. after that it gets a bit samey, but that may just be because i don't know the second side well enough. springsteen is certainly exhibiting his almost supernatural gift for songwriting throughout though.

The spirit of John Steinbeck must have chosen The Boss to be the vessel for this amazing work. One of the best albums ever made in any genre, in my opinion.

hmm i wouldn't say the entire thing is dull - i think there are five amazing songs, to which the rest don't quite live up.
