I just adore the energy they have with Morello. Amazing song! Also, Grapes of Wrath is excellent, read it.

Love the Morello version, but that may be because it was the version I saw when I saw the boss play live. The emotion in the song by the entire band was unlike anything I've seen before or since and on a personal level, that has carried over to the recorded version. Original is still fantastic obviously.

With the High Hopes version, Springsteen and Morello tried to recapture the energy of their live performance of this song from 2009's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary concert, and they didn't quite pull it off. Even though it's a literal note-for-note studio transcription of that performance, the live emotion just doesn't carry over to the studio recording. That said, it's nice to hear the intricacies of both Springsteen and Morello's guitar work that can't be heard on the live recording, and it's still a great rendition of this song.

Now Tom said "Mom, wherever there's a cop beatin' a guy Wherever a hungry newborn baby cries Where there's a fight 'gainst the blood and hatred in the air Look for me Mom I'll be there Wherever there's somebody fightin' for a place to stand Or decent job or a helpin' hand Wherever somebody's strugglin' to be free Look in their eyes Mom you'll see me."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLFLrTnue9s [2] Possibly the most breathtaking live performance of any song I've ever seen. Tom Morello literally steals the show right out from under Springsteen. Amazing.

Grungeguy_ - it's a nice lyric, but it's adapted straight from a speech in the Grapes of Wrath. Some credit to Steinbeck is due.

I'm a huge RATM fan, but when I heard the original I was just astonished! Sad but yet so full of hope!
