Have been listing to the studio version for ages and just stumbled across the Chimes of Freedom recording. Don't think I'll ever go back to the studio version, the live version is so much better.

the live version from chimes of freedom is FANTASTIC. Find a copy! [2] It's hard to see the album version in the same light after you listen to the version on the EP.

wow, the phrasing in this song is really unusual, he really uses the beat well. this is one of those all time underground cult classics, you know...

this was one of my all-time favourite songs anyway, but it's taken on a rather special significance for me in the past few days.

"one of the realest love songs ever written. this is how it actually happens in people's lives." ---> *agrees* "So very intense, just amazingly human" ---> *agreesagain* Monsieur Untermir: Du wirst's eines Tages so sehr lieben wie ich.

Haven't heard this in over 10 years; I'd forgotten how much I love it. The strong, lazy beat suits the weary but resilient mood of the song.

oh my god i just watched the video. oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god. perfection. god that was a work of absolute genius. If I believed in God I'd ask him to bless the Boss. I know he apparently doesn't like the nickname but I feel it's appropriate because he is absolutely amazing.

this song hit me instantly, although its full power took a few listenes ot sink in. yet another reason why he's the greatest. for that harmonica to kick in after everything that's just happened throughout the song, and for it just to cut through you... well it did with me anyway. interestingly, it sounds very like the acoustic version of 'born to run' off the chimes of freedom EP.

When I was still a little boy, I went with my parents to some or other event (probably something like an Officer's Ball). I was way too small to know anything about music or musicians, but I remember that this song played - I didn't know what it was or who it was or what it meant (couldn't really yet speak any English). But, I knew how it made me feel, and I knew it was something amazing. And years and years later (much more than a decade) I rediscovered it and it still makes me feel the same emotions I did back then as a little boy. This is probably one of my all-time favourite Springsteen tracks. I love the honesty in his music - he is not pretentious in any way, he just says it like it is.

This album for me marked a rite of passage. It grew on me more rather than less. Now I think it is a masterpiece of human vulnerability , sorrow and hope..
