Lyrics have always been 'my thing' and by the mid-70's I was familiar enough with electronic keyboards to know talented synthesizer programmers when I heard them. Add in a love for listening to the spoken word - more so a willingness to be taken on a journey of mental imagery while listening to a well-written story - and you have the recipe for the perfect Celestial Navigations fan. I was watching a second-generation of the Smother's Brothers TV show, this amazing group of entertainers was introduced and I spotted Geoffrey Lewis at the microphone. fronting a small group with a couple of synths. My curiosity was piqued - I'd enjoyed him in his various acting roles, so I thought 'What the heck?' The first few measures of the song were interestingly ethereal. Then Geoff began to speak, and I was hooked before the end of the second paragraph. I bought their self-titled debut album and have fallen in love with each eloquent narrative and fantastic music soundtrack..
