Linda Perry and Christina Aguilera can be heard in the background talking together. Christina refers to the innocent image her managers created for her. She is breaking free, meaning she’s in her rebellion stage. During the Stripped era, she tried hard to leave behind the innocent image. She fired her management team, and took fully control over her work. Christina wants full control over her work. She takes it on her second album Stripped, released in 2002, on which she wrote songs. She was also a producer of the album.
There was slight controversy about the similarities of this song and the 2000 hit single “Overload” by Sugababes. On later versions of “Stripped” the writers of “Overload” were also credited for co-writing “Make Over”.
