Like a fever dream in a decrepit and abandoned cathedral. Harrowing in both its horrifying atmosphere and precise execution. One of the greatest albums I have ever heard.

It's Prometheus, but not Blake's https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9f/Prometheus_Adam_Louvre_MR1745.jpg

Nietzsche would have liked this album artwork. "All prejudices take their origin in the intestines."

i’ve been thinking about this for some time, & i’ve concluded that this must be my favourite album ever made. i haven’t had a favourite album before for more than a month or two since my childhood, but I’ve also never gone back to an album this often for this long & still felt like i was discovering new things in it. lyrically, i find their last two albums surpass this (although this is still a monumental achievement in its own right, even if they borrowed about 30% from bataille; overall, they’re probably one of the few bands who’ve ever challenged & changed my thinking), but musically, it’s hands-down their best & unlikely to be surpassed. just phenomenal.

It's not even in my top 3 DsO albums (it is, however, in a close 4th place for me) and yet this is still an excellent comment. It's undeniably a masterpiece with untouchable atmosphere

En dash, hyphen - I'm so pedantic that I always use an artist's native-language tags when they exist, even if I don't even understand the writing set, but that's a level of pedantry I'll never find myself able to reach. You might as well use curly apostrophes for all your song tags. I mean, that *is* technically more correct for many of them, but no one else will ever follow it. I couldn't even tell you how to input an en dash on Windows without looking it up (or copying and pasting it), and I'm an IT major. You'll never be able to get people who know less about computers than I do to use en dashes for their tags, particularly since many don't even know the difference. And when it comes to this album, the capitalisation bothers me way more - Latin titles should only have the first letter and proper nouns capitalised. Plus, one word: Spotify. Sorry - I just can't fathom how anyone can care about an en dash when there's all that "(2004 Remastered Version)" shit floating around. IDGI.

True, but IIRC there's a request form to get the last.fm mods to fix it. You can probably find it on the getsatisfaction forums (https://getsatisfaction.com/lastfm IIRC). I don't know if they're still checking it. Anyway the user vote system is so broken that it'll never get fixed even if five dozen people vote for it. Spotify overrides all user votes. It's impossible to fix anything if Spotify has the wrong tags.

This might be blasphemy, but ever since I used the gain envelope to raise the volume of the quiet parts to be more clearly audible I've loved this album more than ever. Probably my favourite release of theirs alongside Synarchy, with Paracletus a close third.

I went ahead and uploaded it to YT, but for some reason forgot to post it here. Enjoy (or don't; I'll probably survive either way). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jt5V6UdnBFw

I have the picture disc vinyl box of their trilogy stuff. One of the best bargains I’ve ever picked up. Other than that I only have the Diabolus absconditus/Mass Grave Aesthetics LP and The Synarchy of Molten Bones LP. I sort of want to pick up the other trilogy releases for the packaging but I’m happy enough with my cleaned up rips of the picture disc box that it’s probably not worth paying the inflated Discogs prices. Maybe they’ll reprint some of the rarer ones eventually; they seem to be better about that than a lot of other bands are.

I can't really call this a "masterpiece", but it's still a great album, it oozes a lot of experience and shows great musical skills, but there is still room for improvement, best album from them yet, in my personal opinion

this is the best album i've heard in my whole life (2). Fas>>>Paracletus; but atmospherically, and compositionally, they're two VERY different releases. Each album is flawless though.

I just love the way how every single song on this record ends. From the cacophony of technical black arises a dissonant melody, something like the best moments of Blut aus Nord. It lingers on for a while, stucks in your head, like a viral pop-song, and makes you want to re-arrange the whole thing, to remove the dissonance, to push the off-the-key notes just a bit higher or lower to find the harmony.
