I'd like to think St. Vincent was inspired by this while writing Masseduction (going from the heartfelt piano ballad "Happy Birthday, Johnny" to the ferally kinky "Savior")

I can't believe how this never got banned, but Enola Gaye (by OMD) did. The BBC thought Enola Gaye was a coded message about OMD's sexual orientation (even though the lyrics are clearly about the atomic bombing of Hiroshima). But apparently this song isn't about S&M at all (even though the lyrics are well...an easily read code). I also can't believe how young Dave Gahan looks in this video.

One of the first hints of DMs fondness for S&M, this was fairly risque material for 1984 airplay, but recieved plenty all the same. Still a good one.
