@neonboo the problem here is that most people don't get the beauty and awesomeness of simple "standard" punk rock, so they feel inclined to listen to more fancy-pretentious-boring-stuff and to judge what they hear with some preconcieved ideas about music and art, instead of just listen with their hearts open. discount "poppy punk rock" is just perfect to me. if you don't "get it" that's ok, it makes these jams even more precious for us. i had that moment too at 22/23 when i gave up punk rock for a while and started pretending i only liked jazz. i'm glad i got into such amazing stuff and i built a pretty huge jazz albums collection while young, but after a few years i got back listening to punk rock and these simple songs mean much more to me with every passing day than when i was a kid.

Wait. You're saying The Kills is selling out compared to THIS? This is standard poppy punk that's bound to hit bigger audiences because it's so easy to chew, all based around a standard formula making all songs sound pretty much the same. It's pretty sad to still be listening to this music and saying it's wicked awesome years after you turned twelve. The Kills on the other hand rock and I doubt their much larger following won't forget them for years to come either. (The Dead Weather I don't care about either so meh)

what this band did wasn't very different than the other bunches of DIY punk bands touring, and putting out records at the time or even now for that matter.

I do find it ridiculous that people sit on here, taking shots at the Kills and the Dead Weather. Discount was obviously an influential band for their genre...as are the other two bands I mentioned. I feel like some of you misunderstand the meaning of the word "sell-out". Neither of her current bands are signed to major labels. Aside from being critical darlings, neither band has seen really any commercial success. When have you ever heard a song by the Kills on a top 40 radio station? Mosshart and Hince actually took several years to put out their third album because they had NO money, something that obviously wouldn't happen if you had a spectacular record deal. If anything, the music Mosshart makes now is less sonically-accessible than that of Discount. Regardless, what I'm trying to say is that a lot of good bands break up. It's been over a decade. Just enjoy the albums they made and stop whining about what the members of the band do now. They grew up and apart. Shit happens.

@Chadipoo:They've been pretty well remembered over the past 11 years, especially for an independent label band from a tiiiiny town in Florida (I live near it). Most of the bands who played shows with them are only fuzzy memories in my guitar teacher's mind, but kids who were either in diapers or elementary school at this band's peak listen to them and love them. I wasn't comparing the followings of the three bands, I was trying to say that for a band that fizzled out in five years while on a relatively small indie label, they are still loved enough for half the shouts on this page to be pleas for them to get back together. The best the Dead Weather will do is someone 3-4 years from now remembering them as "That Jack White band with the girl singer".

@fourtoedsloth: no clue, but it seems pretty likely that she's too far gone now for Discount to ever do reunion shows. It makes me pretty sad...

Seriously, what happened to her? I don't use the word sellout lightly, but its hard to rationalize any other way...

CloverMonstr: Shuddup. Cunt is not a nice word, nor is "Discunts" a particularly clever punny nickname. Both The Kills and The Dead Weather sound exactly the fucking same and will be fading memories in like 3 more months while Discount has had a sizable following for 15 years, 11 of those years post-breakup. Enjoy yr Spin subscription brah
