They went under both names. They shortened their name in 1975 when they signed on with Capital Records. Today, Locorriere retains ownership of the Dr. Hook name, using it for his current solo band as "Dr Hook Starring Dennis Locorriere" while Sawyer was granted a license to tour separately as "Ray Sawyer of Dr. Hook" or "Dr. Hook featuring Ray Sawyer".

Dr Hook (& The Medicine Show) finally did make it on the cover of Rolling Stone' Can't recall the date & year, I'd say mid 70s. But as it turned out, they were only drawn cartoonish caricatures put on the front cover. Ray Sawyer ---> ( # __ * ) Oh well...... they made mucho $$$ on the record.

It's scary how they have very little listeners on this site, "A little bit more" should have up to thousands of listeners per week

Found good history about Shel Silverstein writing Dr. Hook's early songs on this blog. http://dr-hook-and-shel-silverstein-songs.blogspot.com/
