I really love it. Definitely the best Draconian album, perfectly fits to autumnal atmosphere outside. But there's something in this LP, that forces me to not listen it too often. It's so oppresively slow, crushing and sad, that playing it too often would cause serious depression.

I don't know, this album seems way overrated to me. When reading the reviews, everybody compares every other Draconian work to this album, presenting it as their masterpiece. I don't see it. Only half the songs are memorable: Daylight Misery, Heaven Laid In Tears, The Everlasting Scar (only the intro and outro though) and Death, Come Near Me. Maybe some short sections of other songs there and there, but not much else.

What's funny with your post is that it's your second most listened album.. you tried to convince yourself that much? :D I don't know how to defend this, as you said you read many reviews etc. and arguments in them haven't changed anything; but I think it's just a feeling. Or too much expectations - I went into this album without any thought of its "overrating", it was just my first Draconian album. And from this perspective I fell in love with its monumental, yet very sad sound. These great growls and uncontrived female vocals (which is very rare thing, honestly), great riffs filling atmosphere to next level ("A Scenery of Loss" especially here) And after discovering whole Draconian discography, I haven't found this in other albums in such amount.

It's been long enough for this to have earned its place in the pantheon of mandatory melodic doom records.

Pretty much agree that this is the best Gothic Doom album ever, and Draconian's best work... slightly edging out "Where Lover's Mourn". Such a dark atmosphere, perfect lyrics, everything is here. It would be kind of nice if they went back to this slower, doomier style someday as opposed to their more uptempo, straight up Gothic Metal -- although their newer stuff is great as well :D

Really one of the best albums I've ever heard to, no matter which genre. Especially the last song, "Death, come near me" is so incredible, that I almost have tears in my eyes, when I hear the wonderful melody...

"Death come near" is one of their greatest; 15 minutes and you'll wish it were longer.

I have seen us bathing in blood to defend his very glory I have seen us kneel and praise for nothing... I have seen him dying in our eyes I have realized that god owes us his life... This beauty and this meaning poetry is a fuller revelation
